Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Bantayan

A multi-panel mural on the ceiling that depicts such biblical scenes as the Creation, Fall of Man, and Redemption is a new addition to the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Church in Bantayan. Commissioned in 2018 during the administration of parish priest Fr. Joy Danao, the stunning work of art was also intended as a visual tool for catechism particularly for young churchgoers. The Dibuho sa Kisame project was undertaken by artist Aris Pastor with help from other artists in Cebu and Leyte.

Bantayan was the first parish in Cebu. It was established by the Augustinians on June 11, 1580, four years before the San Nicolas Parish, as the Convento dela Asuncion de Nuestra Señora or Our Lady of the Assumption. The current church, however, dates back to 1839, when the stone structure was built. It was completed in 1863.
