One of the very few churches in the Philippines that managed to acquire a pipe organ was the San Miguel Arcangel Parish Church in Argao. Reportedly brought in from Mexico, it remained unused for decades until it was repaired in 2017.
Argao’s pipe organ was believed to have been installed by Spanish friar Diego Cera, an Augustinian Recollect priest, in the 1800s. Commissioned to undertake the repair was the Diego Cera Organ Builders Inc., curator of the world-famous bamboo organ of Las Piñas City in Metro Manila.
