The convent of the Nuestra Senora del Pilar Parish in Sibonga is representative of similar structures in Spanish colonial times. Sibonga’s casa parroquial is made of coral blocks on the first level and hardwood materials on the second floor.
This substantial convent in Sibonga, which followed the design suggested by Bishop Santos Gomez Maranon, was built by Fr. Prospero Puerto. He served Sibonga for 32 years, or from 1833 to 1868 minus a gap of two years, first as assistant priest before becoming its parish priest.
